- Valve - A regulating device which controls the flow of air or liquid.
- Variation Order - The written authority for a builder to carry out additional work to that originally agreed in the contract.
- Varnish - A resinous solution applied to wood and metal to provide protection. They are available in glossy, semi-gloss (satin) or matt finishes. Clear varnish provides protection to the wood but still allows the grain of the wood to be seen.
- Veneer - Thin sheets of decorative wood covering a support core board of blocks or sheets glued at right-angles to each other.
- Venetian Window - A window consisting of three panes, a arched large centre one, and two narrow square-headed side panes.
- Vent Pipe - A pipe which enables gas to escape from plumbing systems.
- Vermiculated - A form of rusticated masonry where the face of each block is carved with short, irregular wavy channels and hollows.
- Vermiculite - A material used as an aggregate in the construction of fire resistant building materials.
- Voussoir - A wedge-shaped brick or block of stone forming the components of an arch.
